On Friday July 28th, The Crossed Path Players, a completely-student run theatre group comprised of performers coming from all over Nassau County, will come together for a one-night-only performance of 'Heathers The Musical (High School Edition)', a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name staring Winonna Ryder and Christian Slater. In addition, the players will be collecting donations on the evening of the performance that will go directly to the Long Island chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Heathers (High School Edition), taking place at Westerburg High School in 1989, follows the story of teenage outcast, Veronica Sawyer, who gets taken in by the most popular clique in school - the Heathers. By forging them a hall pass, Veronica gets a makeover that exudes total 'hell on wheels', and is finally looked just as highly upon in the halls of Westerburg as the Heathers are. While with the clique, Veronica meets troubled dark horse JD, who, with Veronica's help, plans to make their high school a better place by eliminating anything, or anyone, that gets in his way. This classic dark comedy deals directly with relevant themes in today's high school society - such as bullying, power, and suicide. Through all of the chaos that Heathers brings with it, an overall message prevails that life can be beautiful, no matter the circumstance. That message works hand-in-hand with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - a non-profit organization dedicated to awareness and offering help towards those affected by suicide.
